On unitary representations of the group of de Sitter space
Ausgangspunkt ist die 10-parametrige kontinuierliche Gruppe der linearen Transformationen, die die quadratische Form \(w^2+x^2+y^2+z^2-t^2\) invariant lassen. Die zehn infinitesimalen Operatoren \(L\), \(M\), \(N\), \(X\), \(Y\), \(Z\); \(U\), \(V\), \(W\), \(T\) und ihre Vertauschungsrelationen sind leicht angebbar (ubrigens sind die Vorzeichen bei \(U\), \(V\), \(W\), \(T\) falsch angegeben). Die ersten sechs Operatoren (von \(L\) bis \(Z\)) erzeugen die Untergruppe der vierdimensionalen Drehungen, die das direkte Produkt von zwei dreidimensionalen Drehungsgruppen ist. Ausgehend von der bekannten Darstellungstheorie dieser Untergruppe werden nun sämtliche irreduziblen unitären Darstellungen der ganzen Gruppe durch unendliche Matrizen aufgestellt. Die Methode ist folgende: Nach der Ausreduktion der Untergruppe sind die sechs Matrizen \(L\) bis \(Z\) bekannt. Die übrigen vier sind mit ihnen durch 15 lineare und untereinander durch sechs quadratische Vertauschungsrelationen verknüpft. Auf Grund der linearen Relationen werden sehr viele Matrixelemente Null. Die quadratischen Relationen, die sich auf eine von ihnen reduzieren, und die Irreduzibilitätsforderung schränken die Möglichkeiten noch weiter ein. Ergebnisse: Jede Darstellung hängt von zwei Zahlen, \(p\), \(q\) ab. In den folgenden Formeln sind die halbganzen oder ganzen Zahlen \(j_1\), \(j_2\), \(m_1\), \(m_2\) Zeilenindizes, ebenso \(j_1^{\prime}\), \(j_2^{\prime}\), \(m_1^{\prime}\), \(m_2^{\prime}\), Spaltenindizes. Dabei nimmt \(m_1\) nur die Werte \(-j_1, -j_1+1, \ldots \!, j_1\) an, und dasselbe gilt für \(m_2\) und \(k_2\). Dabei sind \(f(j_1, j_2)\), \(g(j_1, j_2)\), \(h(j_1, j_2)\), \(k(j_1, j_2)\) Ausdrücke folgender Art: \[ f(j_1, j_2)=i\sqrt{\dfrac {(j_1 + j_2-p)(j_1 + j_2+p+1)(j_1 + j_2-q)(j_1 + j_2+q+1)} {2j_1(2j_1+1)2j_2(2j_2+1)}}. \] Auf Grund dieser Formeln ist jede irreduzible Darstellung bestimmt durch die reellen Zahlen \((p + \frac{1}{2})^2\) und \((q + \frac{1}{2})^2\) und durch die Angabe der möglichen Werte der Zeilenindizes \(j_1\), \(j_2\). Sind \(p\) und \(q\) gegeben, so gibt es in den meisten Fällen eine, in besonderen Fällen zwei oder drei Darstellungen, \(p\) und \(q\) sind aber nicht willkürlich wählbar; z. B. muss eine von ihnen eine halbganze oder ganze Zahl sein. Für \(j_1-j_2\) kommen immer nur endlich viele, für \(j_1 + j_2\) immer unendlich viele Werte in Betracht, und zwar sind \(j_1-j_2\) und \(j_1 + j_2\) beide stets ganz im Fall einer eindeutigen, halbganz im Fall einer zweideutigen Darstellung.
