Hybrid multifluid algorithms based on the path-conservative central-upwind scheme
The authors developed a new numerical method for compressible multicomponent fluids. A multiphase fluid consists of immiscible components. The interface separating two phases is tracked by the level set (sharp interface) method. In the neighbourhood of the phase interface the energy equation is replaced by the evolution equation for pressure, which yields a non-conservative hyperbolic system. The latter is approximated by the central-upwind path-conservative method. In the area of one-phase flow, a standard central-upwind method is applied. The higher-order reconstruction is realized by a WENO-type method. Numerical experiments confirm reliability of the developed method in order to simulate compressible multicomponent flows.
