The author tries to identify the author of one of the most ancient abacus treatises, the \textit{Tractatus algorismi}, written in Montpellier in 1307 by a Master Iacopo da Firenze. Among three potential candidates, the most likely appears to be Ser Iacopo di Pacino Peruzzi.
