Abstract: Let be a compact connected Lie group and be a principal G-bundle with a characteristic map , where for some . Let be a cone-decomposition of of length and with which satisfy up to homotopy for any . Our main result is as follows: we have , if firstly the characteristic map is compressible into , secondly the Berstein-Hilton Hopf invariant vanishes in and thirdly is a sphere. We apply this to the principal bundle to determine L-S category of .
