Abstract: Recently Vaughan Jones showed that the R. Thompson group encodes in a natural way all knots, and a certain subgroup of encodes all oriented knots. We answer several questions of Jones about . In particular we prove that the subgroup is generated by (where are the standard generators of ) and is isomorphic to , the analog of where all slopes are powers of and break points are -adic rationals. We also show that coincides with its commensurator. Hence the linearization of the permutational representation of on is irreducible.
