Abstract: We investigate the motion of extended test objects in the Schwarzschild spacetime, particularly the radial fall of two point masses connected by a massless rod of a length given as a fixed, periodic function of time. We argue that such a model is inappropriate in the most interesting regimes of high and low oscillation frequencies.
