u(Acup B)- u(A)-
u(B)|leq 1quad{for disjoint}A,Binmathcal F,there is a vector measure with for all . If this condition is valid when restricted to set algebras of cardinality less than some fixed cardinal number , then we say that has the - property. The least cardinal for which does not have the - property (if it exists) is called the character of . We apply the machinery of twisted sums and quasi-linear maps to characterise these properties and to determine characters for many classical Banach spaces. We also discuss connections between the - property, -injectivity and the `three-space' problem.
