[For the entire collection see Zbl 0717.00013.] This paper reviews inequalities playing an important role in quantum physics and quantum statistical mechanics. It includes the following chapters: Sobolev and spectral inequalities, majorization inequalities, convexity and rearrangement inequalities. New and classical results are presented in a modern and stimulating way. A great effort is made to describe their impact in applications. The review is carefully written and contains a large list of references.
