The book consists of twenty articles published previously in \textit{Delta} or \textit{Matematyka, Społeczeństwo, Nauczanie} (\textit{Mathematics, Society, Education}). It is divided into three parts: A, B, and C. Rather elementary problems discussed in Part A are followed in Parts B,C by gradually more and more advanced topics. Part A: How to cover a stain on a table cloth. Convex sets and circular discs. Ruler, compasses, and approximate solutions of famous problems. On dissection of a rectangle into squares. Special points of a triangle. Part B: Cyclic inequalities. Geometric sophisms. Transitive numbers and Liouville's numbers. About figures of constant width. The function \(pi\). Inequalities, convexity, and extrema. Extremal properties of isoperimetric figures. The Brouwer Fixed Point Theorem. Troubles with an approximation of fixed points. Part C: The Kakeya Problem. Euler's formulae. On the rolling of a polygon. Metric and geometry of a space. The Banach Principle. Secrets of infinite dimension. The book starts from an interesting preface by Marek Kordos (the Editor in chief of both journals mentioned above) and ends off with Bibliographical Notes. From the cover (approximate translation): ``\dots{} Mathematical problems presented here were originated in various times, from antiquity to the twentieth century. Although they have become a heritage of the mathematical culture, they are almost never present in textbooks. The presentation of these interesting problems is clear and simple. Some of them have elementary solutions and some are still open. When writing about the latter, the author tries to take into account the up-to-date state of research. The book is appropriate for high school and the university students interested in mathematics, for teachers of mathematics, and, generally, for all those who have a general interest in mathematics.
