This is a survey paper which describes the generation of grids with emphasis laid on the fluid dynamics applications. After a brief introduction regarding metric tensors and orthogonal and conformal coordinate systems, the authors discuss grid generation via solutions of partial differential equations, along with algebraic, adaptive, and unstructured grid generation procedures. The examples from the fluid mechanics include grid generations around airfoils, rotor surfaces, and in various channels.
