If \(\gamma\) is a real number, one denotes by \([\gamma]\) its integer part. The author studies the problem: Does the convergence of a sequence \((u_n)\) along index subsequences of the type \(([\gamma^n])\) insure the convergence of the whole sequence? Main results: Proposition 2. Let \((u_n)\) be a sequence in a compact metric space and \(a\), \(b\) be real numbers such that \(1\leq a<b\). If for every \(\gamma\) in the interval \(]a,b[\), the subsequence \((u_{[\gamma^n]})\) converges, then the whole sequence \((u_n)\) will converge. Proposition 3. There exists a real nonconverging sequence \((u_n)\) such that, for almost all \(\gamma> 1\), the subsequence \((u_{[\gamma^n]})\) will converge. Applications of these results to the strong law of large numbers are given. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0908.00011].
