The author presents an alternative (equivalently) construction of the space of Colombeau generalized functions, adapted to the use of the Leray-Schauder compact mapping theorem. Application is made to a nonlinear elliptic divergence type Dirichlet problem. More general results as well as the detailed proofs are expected in a common paper with S. Pilipović.
