For designing fuzzy models, e.g. via rule bases, it is often helpful to cluster the given data, to detect some structure in the phase space to base the rules upon. The authors here give a hyperellipsoidal clustering method for this purpose which combines hierarchical and non-hierarchical procedures and does not require any a priori assumptions on the clusters. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0863.00023].
