The authors study existence, uniqueness and exponential decay of solutions of the following initial-boundary value problem (IBVP) \[ u_{tt} - M (\|\nabla u\|^2_{2,\Omega}) \Delta u + \alpha u_t = 0 \text{ in } \Omega\times [0,\infty)\tag{1} \] \[ u= 0 \text{ on } \Gamma_0 \times [0,\infty), \tag{2} \] \[ {{\partial u}\over{\partial \nu}} + \delta(x) u_t = 0\text{ on } \Gamma_1\times[0,\infty), \tag{3} \] \[ u(x,0) = u^0(x),\quad u_t(x,0) = u^1 (x) \text{ in } \Omega,\tag{4} \] where \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^n\) is an open bounded set with boundary \(\Gamma\) of class \(C^3\), \(M\in C^1 (\mathbb{R}_+, \mathbb{R}_+)\), \(\alpha > 0\), \(\{\Gamma_0, \Gamma_1\}\) is a certain partition of \(\Gamma\). Existence results are obtained via a Galerkin procedure under suitable smallness assumptions on the initial data. The exponential decay is obtained via the method of V.\ Komornik and E.\ Zuazua.
