Abstract: For a sequence alphann=0infty, we consider the Hankel operator Gammaalpha, realised as the infinite matrix in ell2 with the entries alphan+m. We consider the subclass of such Hankel operators defined by the "double positivity" condition Gammaalphageq0, GammaS*alphageq0; here S*alpha is the shifted sequence alphan+1n=0infty. We prove that in this class, the sequence alpha is uniquely determined by the spectral shift function xialpha for the pair Gammaalpha2, GammaS*alpha2. We also describe the class of all functions xialpha arising in this way and prove that the map alphamapstoxialpha is a homeomorphism in appropriate topologies.
