Exact enumeration problems, generating functions (05A15) Real polynomials: location of zeros (26C10) Zeros of polynomials, rational functions, and other analytic functions of one complex variable (e.g., zeros of functions with bounded Dirichlet integral) (30C15) Measures of association (correlation, canonical correlation, etc.) (62H20)
Abstract: This was the basis of two lectures in the Current Developments in Mathematics conference in 2011. These lectures survey the theory of hyperbolic and stable polynomials, from their origins in the theory of linear PDE's to their present uses in combinatorics and probability theory.
