Abstract: In this paper, we study homological representations of mapping class groups. Given a finite group acting on a surface , we consider the question of whether the representation of given by the action on has arithmetic image. This question has been answered both positively and negatively in different cases by the work of several authors. Our main result is a complete answer to this question when has genus at most 3.
