Abstract: We prove that any -action that acts by automorphisms of with a non-zero fixed-point set induces a unipotent factor of the -action which determines whether the action is {it liberated affine}, i.e. is the linear part of a free affine -action on the torus . In general, it is not true that all unipotent -actions on are liberated affine: counter-examples appear for . But if the dimension of the fixed-point set of regarded as a subspace of is less than , then is liberated affine. If , then a -action on with non-zero fixed-point set is liberated affine. Finally, for unipotent -actions on , we obtain a classification of all those that are the linear part of a minimal free affine -action on .
