The paper is concerned with doubly infinite sequences \(C=\{C_ n\}^ \infty_{n=-\infty}\) of Hermitian \(s \times s\) matrices with complex entries and formal Laurent series \(L_ 0(z)=-\sum^ \infty_{k=1}C_{-k}z^ k\) and \(L_ \infty(z)= \sum^ \infty_{k=0} C_ kz^{-k}\) generated by \(C\). Using a Favard type theorem for certain sequences of Laurent polynomials with matrix coefficients, the relation between the matrix counterpart of the so-called \(T\)-fractions and matrix orthogonal Laurent polynomials is established. The connection with certain two-point Padé approximants to the pair \((L_ 0,L_ \infty)\) is discussed and corresponding error formulas are given.
