The landscape function on R^d
In this interesting paper, the authors consider the Schrödinger operator \(-\Delta +\lambda V\), with non-negative iid random potential \(V\) of strength \(\lambda>0\).\N\NThe first main result of the paper establishes the well-posedness of the landscape equation on the whole space. More precisely, the authors prove that there exists a unique stationary solution of the landscape equation\N\[\N-\Delta u+\lambda Vu=1 \ \text{ on } \ \mathbb{R}^d\N\]\Nwith finite second moment. Secondly, the authors analyze the correlations of the landscape function, and show that it decays exponentially.\N\NThe key idea of the proofs is to consider an infra-red regularization of the landscape function \(u_{\eta}\), with \(\eta>0\), such that\N\[\N-\Delta u_{\eta}+(\lambda V+\eta)u_{\eta}=1,\N\]\NThe proof of the first main result follows by establishing moment bounds on \(u_{\eta}\) that are uniform in \(\eta\), and letting \(\eta\rightarrow 0\). The proof of the second main result also follows by establishing appropriate estimates for \(u_{\eta}\) and passing them to the limit as \(\eta\rightarrow 0\). The uniform estimates are obtained through uniform decay estimates for the infra-red regularization of the Green function of \(-\Delta+\lambda V\). This is done using Agmon's positivity method, along with a rank-one perturbation (in dimensions \(d\ge 3\)), and first-passage percolation (in dimensions \(d=1,2\)).
