Abstract: Let x=[0;a1,a2,...] be the decomposition of the irrational number xin[0,1] into regular continued fraction. Then for the derivative of the Minkowski function ?(x) we prove that ?(x)=+infty provided limsuptoinftyfraca1+...+att<kappa1=frac2loglambda1log2=1.388+, and ?(x)=0 provided liminftoinftyfraca1+...+att>kappa2=frac4L55L4L5L4=4.401+ (here Lj=log(fracj+sqrtj2+42)jcdotfraclog22). Constants kappa1,kappa2 are the best possible. Also we prove that ?(x)=+infty holds for all x with partial quotients bounded by 4.
