Rigidity of closed minimal hypersurfaces in S^5

Let \(\mathbf{x}\colon M\to\mathbb{S}^{n+1}\) be an immersed hypersurface in a sphere of radius 1. The eigenvalues \(\lambda_1,\dots,\lambda_n\) of the shape operator are called the principal curvatures of \(M\), and it is customary to denote by \(g\) the number of distinct principal curvatures. The hypersurface \(M\) is isoparametric if and only if its principal curvatures are constant. See for example [\textit{Q.-S. Somerville, MA: International Press. 197--260 (2020; Zbl 1465.53016)] for further information on isoparametric hypersurfaces. The \(r\)-mean curvature of \(M\) is defined as \(H_r=\sum_{i_1<\dots<i_r}\lambda_{i_1}\cdots\lambda_{i_r}\).\N\NThe main result of this paper is as follows. Set \(n=4\), assume that \(M\) is minimal (\(H_1=0\)), and \(H_2\), \(H_3\), and \(g\) are constant. Then, \(M\) is isoparametric and \(H_2\in\{0,4,12\}\).\N\NThis result is related to \textit{S. S. Chern}'s conjecture for minimal hypersurfaces in spheres [Minimal submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold. Techn. Rep., University of Kansas, Department of Mathematics (1968)].
