The authors consider a symplectic realization of the twisted loop group \(\mathrm{LG}_{n}(F)\) of type \(A_{n}^{(2)}\) over a characteristic local field \(F\). By pulling-back the Weil representation of an infinite-dimensional symplectic group, the authors construct a projective representation of \(\mathrm{LG}_{n}(F)\), also called the Weil representation and describe explicitly the action of \(\mathrm{SL}_{2}\) subgroups corresponding to the simple roots of \(\mathrm{LG}_{n}(F)\). Using the Kac-Moody group functor by \textit{J. Tits} [J. Algebra 105, 542--573 (1987; Zbl 0626.22013)] and the construction of the metaplectic cover of Kac-Moody groups by \textit{M. M. Patnaik} and \textit{A. Puskás} [Duke Math. J. 168, No. 4, 553--653 (2019; Zbl 1498.20129)], the authors describe the metaplectic cover \(E\) of the affine Kac-Moody group \(G_{D}(F)\) of type \(A_{n}^{(2)}\), which admits a covering \(G_{D}(F)\rightarrow \mathrm{LG}_{n}(F)\).\N\NThe main result in this paper is that the projective Weil representation of \(\mathrm{LG}_{n}(F)\) can lift to an ordinary representation of \(E\). The proof is established by constructing operators for the generators of \(E\) through the explicit actions of the root subgroups of the twisted loop group and then showing that these operators satisfy the desired relations.
