Minimizing travelling waves for the Gross-Pitaevskii equation on R T

The authors examine the Gross-Pitaevskii equation in two dimensions with periodic boundary conditions in one direction. By minimizing the Ginzburg-Landau energy functional under the constraint of fixed momentum, they determine a threshold value below which minimizers are the one dimensional dark solitons and above which no minimizer can be one-dimensional.
