The Iwasawa invariants of Z_p^d-covers of links
Iwasawa theory studies infinite towers of number fields whose absolute Galois group is isomorphic to the additive group of \(p\)-adic integers. In particular, such a theory establishes a beautiful formula for the class number of the fields inside the tower. The authors of the paper under review recast the Iwasawa theory in terms of the arithmetic topology of knots and links. Namely, they prove the following six main results: (1) Cuoco-Monsky's multivariable versions of Iwasawa's class number formula for the compatible covers of knots and links; (2) An analogous result for the compatible covers of connected orientable 3-manifolds; (3) Explicit formulas of the Iwasawa numbers for the compatible connected orientable 3-manifolds; (4) Estimation of a gap between the first homology groups of branched and unbranched covers of links; (5, 6) Interplay of the Iwasawa theory with the Alexander polynomials of knots and links.\N\NThese are new and interesting results advancing the field of arithmetic topology. A draft of the paper is available\Nat \url{https://arxiv.org/abs/2401.03258}.
