Let \(K\) be a complete discretely valued field whose residue field is a finite field of characteristic \(p\). For \(n\ge1\) let \(C_{p^n}\) be a cyclic group of order \(p^n\). The group ring \(K[C_{p^n}]\) is a Hopf algebra, with comultiplication defined by \(\Delta(g)=g\otimes g\), counit by \(\varepsilon(g)=1\), and coinverse by \(S(g)=g^{-1}\) for \(g\in C_{p^n}\). Let \(\mathcal{O}_K\) be the ring of integers of \(K\) and let \(H\) be an \(\mathcal{O}_K\)-order in \(K[G]\). Say that \(H\) is a Hopf order if the Hopf algebra structure on \(K[G]\) restricts to a Hopf algebra structure on \(H\). The Hopf orders in \(K[C_{p^n}]\) were determined by \textit{J. Tate} and \textit{F. Oort} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 3, 1--21 (1970; Zbl 0195.50801)] in the case \(n=1\), and by \textit{D. Tossici} [J. Algebra 323, No. 7, 1908--1957 (2010; Zbl 1193.14059)] in the case \(n=2\). This paper addresses several questions regarding Hopf orders in \(K[C_{p^n}]\) for \(n=2,3\).\N\NTwo types of Hopf orders which can be constructed in \(K[C_{p^n}]\) are Gauss sum orders, which are defined when \(n=2\) and \(K\) is a field of characteristic 0 with a primitive \(p\)th root of unity, and truncated exponential orders. Suppose \(K\) is a field of characteristic 0 which contains a primitive \(p\)th root of unity. The author shows that the truncated exponential orders in \(K[C_{p^2}]\) constructed by Tossici can also be expressed as Gauss sum orders. Now suppose that \(K\) is a field of characteristic 0 which contains a primitive \(p^3\) root of unity. The author shows how the Hopf orders in \(K[C_{p^3}]\) which he constructed in [\textit{R. G. Underwood}, J. Algebra 319, No. 11, 4426--4455 (2008; Zbl 1148.16020)] can be realized as iterated versions of Gauss sum orders. In both cases, explicit formulas are provided which express the given Hopf orders in Gauss sum form. Finally, in the case where char\((K)=p\) the author constructs a family of truncated exponential orders in \(K[C_{p^3}]\) which are analogous to Tossici's orders in \(K[C_{p^2}]\).
