Given an abelian group \(G,\) the subgroups of \(G\) which are ideals in any ring on \(G\) are called absolute ideals of \(G.\) A (not necessarily associative) ring \(R\) is said to be an \(AI\)-ring if every ideal of \(R\) is an absolute ideal of its additive group. An \(RAI\)-group is an abelian group \(G\) with the property that there exists at least one \(AI\)-ring on \(G.\)\N\N\N\textit{L. Fuchs} [Infinite abelian groups. Vol. II. Academic Press, New York, NY (1973; Zbl 0257.20035)] (Problem 93) asked for a description of \(RAI\)-groups.\N\NThe main result of the paper under review answers that question for almost completely decomposable groups, i.e. abelian groups \(G\) containing a completely decomposable subgroup of finite index. More precisely, the authors prove that any almost completely decomposable group is an \(RAI\)-group (Theorem 3.5). Some other results related to the existence of \(AI\)-rings with special properties on almost completely decomposable groups are established.
