Conditions are prescribed on a function f on \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\), \(n\geq 2\), and a real number \(\alpha\) that ensure that its Fourier transform is \(O(| x|^{-n-\alpha})\) as \(| x| \to \infty.\) The conditions on f involve mixed smoothness and decay estimates on the spherical and radial variables in polar coordinates.
