Quantizing gravity and spacetime: Where do we stand?

From MaRDI portal

The author reviews several possible variants of how to join quantum theory and gravity theory into one full theory. He classifies the many variants found in the literature into 5 classes: NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINE1. Gravity should not be quantized at all. 2. Quantum gravity needs to consider the observer as part of the system. 3. Perturbative quantization 4. Hamiltonian quantization 5. String theory. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe paper was presented in 1998 at the meeting of the German Physical Society in Regensburg.
