This survey paper contains the following: examples from physical applications of singular integral equations (SIEs); analytical theory of SIEs with constant coefficients on [-1,1]; numerical methods for SIEs. The references include 74 titles and give a review of the works on numerical methods for SIEs made in western countries; otherwise, works in Russian are not included.
