Refinement and implementation
The text refers to the development and implementation of successful data processing systems. It provides a detailed discussion of some typical examples of implementation of algebraic specifications, it introduces a general notion of implementation based on the semantic concepts of constructors and abstractors, it reviews several approaches related to this framework that are found in the literature, and it considers syntactic aspects. In particular, constructors and abstractors are described by syntactic means yielding a variety of notions of implementations with a full syntactic description. Finally, the composition of implementations where different possibilities are studied is considered, along with the compatibility of implementation concepts with horizontal structuring of specifications, including parameterized specifications and modules. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0973.68002].
