Regularity of singular set in optimal transportation

From MaRDI portal

This article discusses the regularity of the singular set in potential theory. Let \(f, g\in L^1(\mathbb{R}^n)\) be two probability densities concentrated on bounded open sets \(\Omega\) and \(\Omega^*\) respectively. Let \(u\) be such that \((Du)_{\#}f=g\) with \(Du(x)\in \overline{\Omega^*}\) for almost all \(x\in \mathbb{R}^n\). It is by now well understood that if \(\Omega^*\) is convex, then \(u\in C^{1, \beta}_{\mathrm{loc}}(\Omega)\) for some \(\beta\in (0, 1)\). The current work discusses the case where \(\Omega^*\) is not convex, but the union of two bounded and convex sets \(\Omega_1^*\) and \(\Omega_2^*\). It is also assumed that the ratio \(f/g\) is bounded between two positive constants. The authors establish that the singular set \(\mathcal{F}\) is now a \(C^{1, \beta}\) hypersurface. Furthermore, if \(\Omega_1^*\) and \(\Omega_2^*\) are of class \(C^2\) and uniformly convex, then \(\mathcal{F}\) is of class \(C^{2, \alpha}\).
