Rings over which direct sums of CS modules are CS

From MaRDI portal

Let \(R\) be a ring. An \(R\)-module \(M\) is called a CS module if every submodule is essential in a direct summand. It is proved that if \(R\) is a right nonsingular ring then every direct sum of CS right \(R\)-modules is CS if and only if \(R\) is right Artinian and every indecomposable injective right \(R\)-module has length at most 2. Moreover, in this case, if the right \(R\)-module \(R\) is CS then every right \(R\)-module is CS. An example is given of a right and left Artinian right and left hereditary left serial ring \(R\) such that every direct sum of CS \(R\)-modules is CS but the right \(R\)-module \(R\) is not CS. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0878.00051].
