Schwartz's complex hyperbolic surface

From MaRDI portal

In his celebrated paper [Invent. Math. 151, No. 2, 221--295 (2003; Zbl 1039.32030)], \textit{R. E. Schwartz} constructed a remarkable representation of the triangle group \(G(4,7)\) in \(\mathrm{PU}(2,1)\), the group of holomorphic isometries of complex hyperbolic plane \(H_{C}^2\). He proved that the image group \(\Gamma(4,7)\) is arithmetic, geometrically finite subgroup of \(\mathrm{PU}(2,1)\). Also, he showed that the orbifold at infinity defined by \(\Gamma(4,7)\) admits a real hyperbolic structure! This orbifold is the unique explicit example of a real hyperbolic closed 3-orbifold admitting uniformizable spherical \(CR\)-structure.\N\NIn the paper under review, the author proves a lot of very nice results related to the above-cited paper. He shows that the Schwartz representation is faithful and he describes the topology of the orbifold in question in a very beautiful way.
