Sequence equicontinuity, bounded sequence complexity and rigidity

From MaRDI portal

The setting considered here is a topological dynamical system \(T\colon X\to X\), where \(X\) is a compact metric space and \(T\) is a homeomorphism. The space \(M(X,T)\) of \(T\)-invariant Borel probability measures on \(X\) is not empty by the \textit{N. Kryloff} and \textit{N. Bogoliouboff}'s theorem [Ann. Math. (2) 38, 65--113 (1937; Zbl 0016.08604)], because \(M(X,T)\) is weak* compact and any limit point of the sequence \[\left(\frac1n\sum_{j=0}^{n-1}\delta_{T^jx}\right)_{n\geqslant1}\] is automatically \(T\)-invariant. The main results here concern relationships between notions of sequence equicontinuity and rigidity: Uniform rigidity, a notion of `equicontinuity of type \(4\)', a notion of `bounded complexity of type \(4\)' are shown to all be equivalent for the topological dynamical system and similar results are also shown in the measure-preserving setting. Some new definitions are introduced and examples constructed to show where they give new classes of dynamical systems.
