Simulation of seasonal geographic patterns of methane using observation data

From MaRDI portal

The aim of the article is to numerically study the global methane distribution in atmosphere. The authors use the 3D climatic model of the atmospheric dynamics in which the trace gas transport is included. The surface measurements data for the methane concentration is analyzed by the mathematical model under consideration. The authors note that the climatic model including the methane transport makes it possible to interpret the sparse ground-based data in a suitable form for further analysis. The calculation results demonstrate appearance the following characteristic features of the large-scale methane transport: the north-south latitudinal gradient in the surface concentration for the period 1984--1987 and its seasonal variations. This gives a foundation for improving and developing a simulation of seasonal geographic patterns of methane, with complex interactions with surface and subsurface environments seasonal cycles included in the model.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe numerical simulation presented in the article illustrates a practical usage of the 3D climatic model in the problem of global distribution of \(\text{CH}_4\) concentrations in the atmosphere.
