Solvability of universal bol 2-loops

From MaRDI portal

It is known that every 3-net can be coordinatized by a loop \((L,.)\) and two isomorphic 3-nets are coordinatized by two isotopic loops. Universal properties of loops are properties invariant under isotopies. The author investigates the class of (left) Bol loops i.e. loops satisfying \(x(y.xz)=(x.xy)z\) for all \(x,y,z\in L\). The main result is the theorem: For a Bol loop \((L,.)\) the following properties are equivalent: (i) \(G(L)\) is a 2-group, where \(G(L)\) is the group generated by the left translations of \(L\); (ii) the order of \(L\) is a power of two; (iii) the loop \((L,.)\) is a universal 2-loop. This theorem is used to obtain a new proof of the theorem of G. Glauberman and C. Wright: All finite Moufang 2-loops are nilpotent.
