Some remarks about fibonacci groups and semigroups

From MaRDI portal

Let \(r,n\in\mathbb{N}^*\) and \(k\in\mathbb{N}\). The Fibonacci group \(F(r,n)\) is the group defined by the presentation: \[ \langle a_1,a_2,\dots,a_n:a_ia_{i+1}\cdots a_{i+r-1}=a_{i+r},\;i=1,2,\dots,n\rangle\tag{1} \] and the Fibonacci semigroup \(S(r,n)\) is the semigroup defined by the same presentation (1). In this paper a generalization of these groups and semigroups, namely the group \(F(r,n,k)\) defined by the presentation: \[ \langle a_1,a_2,\dots,a_n:a_1a_{i+1}\cdots a_{i+r-1}=a_{i+k+r-1},\;i=1,2,\dots,n\rangle\tag{2} \] and the semigroup \(S(r,n,k)\) defined by the same presentation (2) is studied. These groups and semigroups have been introduced by R. M. Thomas, C. M. Campbell, E. F. Robertson, and N. Rušcuk. In this paper the case \(k=0\) is considered. Denote \(G(r,n)=F(r+1,n,0)\). It is proved that: 1) \(G(n,n)\) is infinite for all \(n\geq 2\). 2) If \((r,n)=d>1\) then \(G(r,n)\) is infinite. 3) If \((r,n)=1\) then \(G(r,n)\) is a cyclic group of order \(r\). 4) If \((r-1,n)=1\) then \(S(r,n,0)\) is a union of \(n\) copies of the cyclic group \(C_{r-1}\) of order \(r-1\) and \(C_{r-1}\) is a right ideal.
