The paper is a corrected version of the paper of the first author [Int. Sci. J. Regul. Chaotic Dyn. 12, 490--501 (2007)], where some gaps in the proofs appeared. The authors consider the quadratic recurrence equation \[ \Lambda_{p+1}=\frac{1}{p}\;\sum_{q=1}^p f\biggl(\frac{q}{p+1}\biggr) \Lambda_p\Lambda_{p+1-q}, \tag{*} \] where \(p\in \mathbb N\), \(f\in C[0,1]\), and \(\Lambda_1=y>0.\) The dependence of \(\Lambda\) on the initial condition is emphasized by the notation \(\Lambda_p(y)\). Denote \(y^{+}=\inf\{y,\;\Lambda_p(y)\to \infty,\;p\to \infty\}\), \(y^{-}=\sup\{y,\;\Lambda_p(y)\to 0,\;p\to \infty\}\). If \(y^{+}=y^{-}=y_0\), \(\Lambda(y_0)\) is called the separating solution of (*). As a main result, conditions of the function \(f\) are given which guarantee the existence of a separating solution. Theoretical results are complemented by an interesting numerical analysis.
