The paper is concerned with the description of basic schemes and properties of a projected fuzzy relational inference language named FRIL. The language is intended to be a high level automatic inference knowledge base system similar to the language PROLOG. FRIL is based upon the mathematics of relations instead of predicate calculus and incorporating a fuzzy inference capability through fuzzy relations. The user is to provide a knowledge base of facts and rules from which queries can be answered automatically by the system designed. The automation of the inference process is analogous to Gaussian elimination in the linear equations sphere, rather than to resolution in theorem proving. Only the fundamental philosophy of the language FRIL is described in the paper. Full details of algorithms for automated inference mechanism along with a rigorous definition of the language are promised to be presented in a future paper.
