The authors study the relation between the space of orders of a quasi- pythagorean formally real field F and that of a quadratic extension \(K=F(\sqrt{a})\), where the Kaplansky radical of F is assumed to be of finite index in F. Under a very technical condition on a, it is shown that the space of orders of K is equivalent in the sense of \textit{M. A. Marshall} [Can. J. Math. 31, 604-616 (1979; Zbl 0419.10024)] to the direct sum of two copies of the Harrison subbasic set \(H_ F(a)=\) all orders of F where a is positive. Under another condition on a, it is shown that the spaces of orderings of K and F are equivalent. There are other, very technical, results of this type.
