The paper concerns generalizations of the Arens-Kaplansky constructions of the classes \({\mathbb{P}}_ G({\mathbb{A}})\) (rings of G-stable continuous functions into \({\mathbb{A}})\) and \({\mathbb{P}}_{FB}({\mathbb{A}})\) (filtered Boolean powers of substructures of \({\mathbb{A}})\), where \({\mathbb{A}}\) is any relational structure. As a means of investigation, Feferman-Vaught-type theorems are proved for the \({\mathbb{P}}_ G\) and \({\mathbb{P}}_{FB}\) operators (which generalize some results of several authors). Then the algebraic and elementary relationships of both constructions are studied. In the last section of the paper the authors investigate finite algebras which generate a variety that admits representation by stable continuous functions. This is a further generalization of the Arens-Kaplansky result.
