The reflection at numerical boundaries has been the subject of much research in the last decade. In many numerical applications results become useless due to spurious reflections. In this paper spurious reflections of a hyperbolic problem are analyzed by a Fourier method. It is proved that for full discretizations which are obtained by applying to a space discretization of the equations an energy conservative time- marching method, the energy reflected at the boundary is independent of the value of \(\Delta\) tt and is strictly equal to the energy reflected in the semi-discrete case. This result is also verified numerically for a test-case.
