In this work, assuming that a fabric is composed of two orthogonally reinforced inextensible cords, the author studied the continuously distributed wrinkles in fabrics. After giving an extensive survey of the subject he summarized the elements of inextensible theory in Section 2. In Section 3 the kinematical constraints that must be satisfied by carriers of crinkles are derived. The strain energy function depends on the amount of shear of the fabric and it must be evaluated at the carrier of the crinkle. He, therefore, discussed the kinematic conditions to be satisfied at folds in Section 4. Then, in Section 5 he described the concept of a crinkle in some detail. The case of simple wrinkling in some detail is given in Section 6. The case of double wrinkling is studied in Section 7. The minimization of the strain energy function with respect to the limiting interfold amount of shear is presented in Section 8. The modified form of energy functional for a wrinkled deformation is also given in this section. Sections 9 to 13 are concerned with the derivation of the Euler- Lagrange equations governing the minimum energy deformations. The Euler- Lagrange equations, which are not necessarily the result of vanishing of first variation is discussed in Section 14. The shear lines, across which there is no normal stress, and tension lines, across which there is no stress at all are discussed in Section 15. The derivation of infinitesimal theory is presented in Section 16. This work is quite interesting and might be useful for those researchers working on tension field theories or the theories of inextensible networks.
