The purpose of this very interesting paper is to present some theoretical aspects concerning the information-based selection of numerical methods. For simplicity these aspects are related to three directions: a) selection of nonadaptive methods; b) feedback and adaptive methods and c) reliability assessment. These problems, mathematical results and basic ideas, on sample examples are presented. A very elegant analysis of selection principles for nonadaptive methods related to quadrature formulae and to regularity of the solution as the basic information for finite elements is made. For example, the author obtains that the trapezoid formula is a robust formula. The aspects b) and c) for the finite element method and adaptive ODE solvers are discussed. The work contains a bibliography including references from the most significant works in the discussed domain.
