    Let \(f(z)=\sum^{\infty}_{j=0}a_ jz^ j\) be a bounded analytic function on \(| z| <1\) and let \(s_ n\) be the partial sum of the series. An inequality of Fejér says that \(| s_ m(z)| \leq \| f\|_{\infty}\) for all \(| z| \leq \rho_ n\) and all \(m\geq n\geq 1\), where \(\rho_ n\) is the unique positive root of \(1- \rho^ 2-2\rho^{n+1}-2\rho^{n+2}=0.\) In this paper for this result is given a new proof based on matrix theory and it is shown to be sharp iff n is odd. The authors also show that for certain \({\hat \rho}{}_ n\geq \rho_ n\) the inequality \(| s_ m(z)| \leq \| f\|_{\infty}\) (\(| z| \leq {\hat \rho}_ n\), \(m\geq n\geq 1)\) holds and is sharp for all n.
