In numerous papers, Mandelbrot and recently Peitgen and Richter analyzed the behavior of the one-dimensional logistic equation in the complex plane dependent on a bifurcation parameter. Their experimental work brought the so-called Mandelbrot-set to light which caught the interest of scientists in analyzing related equations with experimental methods because of its fractal boundary between convergence and divergence. This work presents a two-dimensional discrete map which is a linear coupling of two logistic equations. High-resolution computer images are presented illustrating the dynamical behavior of the system. These exhibit self- similarities as well in the parameter space as in the phase space for the first time in the real case. The results of the computer experiments may serve to a better understanding of global dynamics with iterative maps.
