The authors present a knowledge representation formalism, called FROG (Frames in Prolog). The technique to build the system is based on the use of a preprocessor which is able to integrate Prolog in a multilevel structure. The structure of the FROG system is characterized by a high flexibility, due to its orientation towards frame structures that can contain either slots or production rules. Both the syntax and the semantics of the knowledge representation language are based on Prolog, assuring a uniform and precise description of the knowledge base. The language also permits control strategies in explicitly defined systems by the knowledge engineer.
