Consider the differential equation (1) \(dx/dt+Ax=f(x)\), where \(A\) is a densely defined unbounded linear operator from \(X\) into itself with the spectrum in the open right complex half-plane and \(f\in C^ r(D(A^ \alpha),X)\), \(0\leq\alpha<1\). The authors show that, under mild additional assumptions, a local invariant \(C^ r\) manifold in \(X^ \beta=D(A^ \beta)\), \(0\leq\beta<1\), for the equation (1) is a \(C^ r\) submanifold of \(D(A)\) as well. Conditions under which the \(C^ r\) semiflow in \(X^ \alpha\) generated by (1) extends to whole \(X\) are also given. Finally, an inertial manifold for the scalar reaction-diffusion equation is obtained.
