The paper concerns 2D-algorithms, with derivations, that determine tool- approach directions for 3-axes machining (and ball-end cutter) for curves satisfying conditions first formulated by \textit{P. Bézier} [Numerical control: Mathematics and applications (1972; Zbl 0251.93002)], a task arising in directly linking computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided process planning (CAPP) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Extension of the algorithms to 3D is mentioned, but not implemented. Extension to 4- and 5-axes machining is planned. Useful references are given.
